Hebron is the burial place of the prophet Abraham and his children, viewed as being a sacred place by both Jews and Muslims the ancient city has become a microcosm of the Israel, Palestine conflict.

Every Saturday in the city of Hebron (Al-Khalil in Arabic), a group of Israeli settlers and tourists enjoy a guided tour of the Jewish elements of the city's old market. The tour is accompanied by a large amount of Israeli Defence force soldiers, often numbering 2 for every civilian on the tour. Due to security issues, the Market has to close business on its busiest day to accommodate the tourists, and all Palestinians in the area are at risk of being harassed and detained. Due to this weekly occurrence, the market is struggling to survive as businesses move out to areas with less military harassment.
